TEAMSTRANGE BBQ CHALLENGE
May 2-4, 2003

Mmm… barbeque.

Homer S.

From the very early on in Teamstrange history good barbeque played a significant role in shaping our events and waistlines. Riders of past events have stopped at many famous and sometimes infamous BBQ joints throughout this country. Legend has it that local waitresses to this very day still remember Eddie’s usual order, the sliced beef plate with a strawberry soda.  Now imagine being a certified BBQ judge. A member of a very elite corps that is willing to eat BBQ for the greater good of humanity. Your friends will marvel at your ability to discuss at great length of the subtleties of Texas Pit vs. St. Louis Style. Your Solomon like decisions will guide the course of BBQ events.  It is only natural then that we head south to the land of cattlemen and roadside BBQ joints for the Teamstrange BBQ Challenge – You be the Judge. Join us for the usual Teamstrange fun, frivolity and this time accreditation.

This will be a non-competitive event (Kiecker we’re looking at you). On Friday, ride to Topeka, KS at your own pace. Teamstrange has a block of rooms available at the Amerisuites in Topeka, KS. When you call, be sure to tell them you are with Teamstrange.  The next morning we will head to the Topeka Expo Center for the Red, Hot & Wild BBQ contest sponsored by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS). We will spend the morning taking in the sight and smells of a real BBQ contest as several dozen teams show off their BBQ finest.

In the afternoon we will then gather for a 4 hour class that will teach you the in and outs of being a BBQ judge and earn the accreditation that entitles you to judge KCBS BBQ contests. Those contests are held through out the country. You also will earn memberships in the KCBS for one year. Visit the KCBS web site www.kcbs.us for further details.

The following morning those who choose can join us for a short ride to Cassoday, KS and their First Sunday event. An informal ride-in event, Cassoday is a great chance to relax after a stressful day of BBQ eating and learnin’.

The price of the BBQ challenge includes a one-year membership into the KCBS, a one-year subscription to the KCBS newsletter the “Bullsheet”, the BBQ judging class and an event T-shirt. Get your bikes and stomachs fired up for the Teamstrange BBQ Challenge – You be the Judge!
